Happy Birthday USA!

Ahhhh, the Fourth of July....nothing like the sights, sounds and smells of summer: mowers mowing, grillers grilling, and firecrackers firecrackering.

John, Leith and I went to Omaha last night to the Shakespeare on the Green production of "King Lear" -- great play, good show. L was terrific during the first half but starting at intermission, she became a little more vocal and active. Not terrible, and we were outside. We'd dressed her in leggings and a long-sleeved tee, hoping to keep the mosquitos at bay...it also helped keep her warm. It was a chilly evening (yes, July 3!) I even resorted to pulling a couple of crib-size blankets around my shoulders -- that short sleeve tee just wasn't enough!

When we finally returned to Lincoln last night, we were amazed at the amount of haze around 27th Street, from Randolph down past Garfield! Not to mention the *smell* -- someone had fired off a whole lot of fireworks! Not much breeze meant the smoke, heavy metals and other toxins stayed around for a while. Yuck.

Only three days until we head out for our Family Vacation 2008! So excited!! Three weeks in Scotland, visiting family and friends. We may even fit in a day trip to Ireland (yay!). I'll be posting about our adventures.
